With the dog days of summer upon us, the sweat machine that
most of us become and waiting like the Bollywood movie Lagaan characters for
Monsoon to begin. Here is Mumbai heat that makes you run to Goa, hunt for Ganne
ka juice (Cane juice) on streets and looking for a Taxi or Auto rickshaw seems
like one of the torture from hell. In between all these kind of days I
realized, hey its MAY!
By now I am sure you must have figured out how much of a
summer person I am (NOT). In between this scorching heat there is something
that brings back the memories that melts my heart and it’s nothing but my
memories of school summer holidays. It’s true memories can make you travel back
in time. The most close to my heart are my summer holidays where I would spend days
and nights listening to stories from my Aaji (Grandmother), playing with
kitchen and clay toys and eat all the best possible dishes made by my granny (
now you know where those Rasgulla cheeks come from
J ). Whereas, my sister and I
would usually stock up all the Kulfis, Rasnas and jellies in the Refrigerator.
Okay so I am talking about month of May and Cookies in my life. You may be
wondering what cookies I am referring to so here I come with my third article.
May month has these
beautiful memories for me because of two people my Aaji (Grandmother) and my sister
who I call cookies of my life. By cookies I mean people who have made our daily
struggle of life beautiful, who encourage and inspire you no matter how tough
the situation seems. They don’t appear as a strong force to change the world
but their soft spoken tone with very powerful words and much stronger meaning
always leaves an impact on me that makes me stronger and confident then I was
before. My grandmother with thinking way ahead of her time made my faith in
unconditional love, self-respect and the happiness of being an independent
woman very solid. Even when she isn’t around me now I still feel her presence
through these strong words and the love she gave.
My sister who is my walking
talking cookie by all means, we fight more and talk less, call names, fight
over sharing things and all other typical sisters stories you have ever heard,
But her constant different ways of caring bring backs the real me when I seem
to get lost. She plays multiple roles in
my life…right from being a Brother to Mumma, Daddy, Friend, at times Doctor and
then of course Sister. Her strong faith in my abilities more than I do makes
her the cookie of my life. These two women who encourage and make me take all
the struggles in my stride with a big smile on the face. I love them to stars
and back <3. We all have such cookies in our life and most of you can
already think of who it is….so let me know who is your cookie my dearies J till then keep calm
and eat Aam (Mango) rest everything can wait as month of MAY, season of mangoes
is here!
Happy Reading!
Cheers,
Amruta.
